The best Notion AI alternatives depend on why you are leaving. If the price per seat is the problem, look at Google Workspace with Gemini or a workspace that gives AI its own free allowance. If you want AI that reads your own documents, Coda and nerix are the closest matches. If you want tasks first and notes second, ClickUp is the one to test. Below, each option is compared on price, strengths and limits, based on the companies' own pages.

Prices checked in October 2026. They change often and differ by country and billing period, so open the official pages before you decide: Notion, Coda, ClickUp, Google Workspace.

Why people look for an alternative

Notion AI is capable, and most complaints are about packaging rather than quality. On Notion's pricing page the Free and Plus plans include Notion AI as a limited trial, and the Business plan, listed at 19.50 euros per member a month, is where it is included. For a team of ten, that is a real jump from the 9.50 euros Plus plan. Others find Notion's blank-page flexibility more work than they want, or they already pay for another suite that includes AI.

The options at a glance

Tool Best for Price from Free plan A key limit
Notion AI Wikis and databases with AI inside 9.50 euros per member a month (AI is a trial until Business) Yes Full AI sits on the higher plan
Coda Docs that act like apps Check their site Yes AI on Free is a trial
ClickUp Tasks, docs and AI together Paid plans from about 9 dollars per user (check) Yes AI runs on credits
Google Workspace Teams already on Gmail and Docs 7 dollars per user a month, billed yearly No Starter has basic Gemini access
nerix Asking questions of your own documents Free, then 15 euros a month Yes Not a Notion-style database tool

Notion AI

Good at: one place for notes, wikis and databases, with AI that can work on the pages you already have. Notion's Business plan lists its AI agent, AI meeting notes and enterprise search (in beta).

Falls short: the price of the plan that includes AI, and the time it takes to set up a workspace well. On the Free and Plus plans, AI is a limited trial, so you cannot build a habit on it.

Price: Free, Plus at 9.50 euros and Business at 19.50 euros per member a month on Notion's euro page. Enterprise is custom.

Coda

Good at: documents with tables, buttons and automations inside them, so a doc can behave like a small app. Coda AI works on that content. Paid plans include monthly AI credits for Doc Makers, and the credit amounts rise by tier.

Falls short: Coda is priced per Doc Maker, which is easy to misread, and the free plan gives only a trial of AI. The company is now showing its product under the Superhuman Docs name, which can confuse a first visit.

Price: Coda's pricing pages have changed recently and sources disagree, so check the current figure on their site.

ClickUp

Good at: work management first, with docs, chat and AI around the tasks. ClickUp's Free Forever plan has unlimited tasks and members, and its pricing page lists a small block of AI credits on it.

Falls short: a lot of features means a lot of settings. The free plan has tight storage and caps on spaces and automations, and AI is metered in credits, with extra credits sold in packs.

Price: paid plans are listed from about 9 dollars per user a month billed yearly, but ClickUp's page shows two different layouts, so confirm on the page.

Google Workspace with Gemini

Good at: Docs, Gmail and Drive are probably where your files already live, and Gemini works inside them. Business Starter lists basic Gemini access.

Falls short: Starter limits the advanced features, such as generating presentations and building spreadsheets, to higher plans. It is a suite, not a wiki, so structure is up to you.

Price: Business Starter is 7 dollars per user a month on the annual plan and 8.40 dollars on the flexible plan, per Google's help page.

nerix

Good at: working from your own documents. You put files in the library, ask questions in chat and get answers with sources. AI output lands in the Sheet as a document with versions, so you can edit it, compare versions and restore an old one. You choose the model, and nerix.ai runs on servers in the European Union today.

Falls short: nerix is not a copy of Notion's page-and-database model, and it will not replace a wiki you have built over years. It is a younger product, and it has fewer integrations than the big suites.

Price: Free for one person, with 3,000 credits a month, and it stops at its limit instead of charging you. Plus is 15 euros a month, and Team is 24 euros per seat a month from three seats. A credit is the unit of AI work, and the app shows what a question costs before you send it. Details are on the pricing page.

How to choose

  • You mainly want your own documents searchable and answerable. Start with nerix or Coda.
  • Your team lives in tasks. ClickUp keeps notes close to the work.
  • You already pay for Google Workspace. Test Gemini first, since you may already have it.
  • You love Notion's structure and only dislike the AI price. Stay, use the trial, and use a separate chat assistant for drafting.

Whatever you pick, run a test on real material: a long meeting note, a messy policy, a client brief. Check the answers against the source, as described in how to check AI answers before you rely on them.

Before you move anything

Moving a workspace is the expensive part, not the subscription. Export your Notion pages first, as Markdown or CSV, and open the files to see what survived: tables, linked databases and images are the usual casualties. Move one area, such as a single team's notes, and live with it for two weeks. Keep the old workspace read-only for a month so nobody loses a page they need. Also check who owns the data and where it is stored: if your clients ask about EU hosting, find the answer for each tool before you move, and write down who can see what.

The short version

Notion AI alternatives fall into four groups: docs that act like apps (Coda), task-first tools (ClickUp), suites you may already own (Google Workspace) and document-centred AI workspaces (nerix). Notion includes full AI on its Business plan, so the cheapest path may be a free plan elsewhere. Test two options on your own files for a week before you move anything.

Vragen die mensen stellen

Is Notion AI free?
Notion lists Notion AI on its Free and Plus plans as a limited trial. The Business plan is the one that includes it. Check the current terms on Notion's pricing page, because the packaging has changed more than once.
Can I use ChatGPT or Claude instead of Notion AI?
Yes, if what you want is a good writing and thinking partner. You lose the AI working inside your pages and databases, so you copy text back and forth. Many small teams find that an acceptable trade for a lower price.
Which Notion AI alternative is best for a team on a budget?
It depends on what you already pay for. If you use Google Workspace, Gemini is already in the plan. If you want a free start with documents and your own files, look at the free plans of Coda, ClickUp and nerix and test them on real work.
