ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini is not a contest with one winner. ChatGPT offers the broadest set of features, Claude is often picked for long documents and careful writing, and Gemini fits best if you already live in Google's apps. All three cost about the same for one person, and all three have a free plan, so the quickest way to decide is to run your own tasks through each. This guide compares their prices, strengths and limits.

Prices checked in October 2026. Plans, limits and model names change quickly, so treat the official pricing pages as the final word: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.

The three side by side

Tool Best for Price from (individual) Free plan Key limit
ChatGPT The widest range of features Plus $20 a month Yes Usage caps on every plan
Claude Long documents and writing Pro $20 a month, $17 billed yearly Yes Hosted in the US by Anthropic
Gemini Google Workspace users AI Plus 4.99 euros, AI Pro 21.99 euros (Germany) Yes Layered plans, worldwide processing

ChatGPT

ChatGPT, from OpenAI, is the best known of the three and has the largest feature list. OpenAI describes Plus at $20 a month as adding higher message limits, voice conversations, image generation, file uploads and analysis, projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, expanded deep research and memory, and use of its Codex coding agent. Paid plans are ad-free, according to OpenAI. For teams, ChatGPT Business is $25 per user a month, or $20 billed yearly, with at least two seats.

Where it falls short: usage caps still apply on every plan, especially at busy times, and the model line-up changes often, so what you get under one plan name today may differ next quarter. Check the model picker in your own account rather than a review. API use for developers is billed separately from the subscription.

Claude

Claude, from Anthropic, is the choice many people make for reading long documents and for writing that sounds measured rather than flashy. Anthropic lists a free plan, Pro at $20 a month ($17 billed yearly), Max from $100 a month for heavy use, and Team seats at $25 a month ($20 yearly) for teams of two to 150.

Where it falls short: it keeps the features around the chat simpler than ChatGPT does, and it offers one company's models only. Anthropic processes content in the United States, which matters if you must keep data in Europe.

Gemini

Gemini, from Google, is the natural fit if your mail, documents and calendar are already in Google's apps. Google lists a free tier that includes image creation, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and Gems. Paid plans in Germany are AI Plus at 4.99 euros a month, AI Pro at 21.99 euros with 5 TB of storage and four times the free usage, and AI Ultra from 99.99 euros. Gemini Enterprise Business, for organisations, starts from $21 per user a month.

Where it falls short: because the plan bundles storage and several products, it is harder to see exactly what the AI part costs you. Google describes processing as worldwide, so check the terms for sensitive material.

What actually differs between them

The three are closer than the marketing suggests. For everyday questions, summaries, rewriting and brainstorming, any of them does a good job, and the differences between their latest models show up mainly on hard problems.

The differences that matter in daily life are practical:

  • Where you already work. Gemini connects naturally to Google's apps. ChatGPT and Claude are separate places you go to.
  • Features around the chat. ChatGPT has the most: voice, images, scheduled tasks and custom assistants. Claude keeps it simpler. Gemini adds Google's own tools.
  • Writing style. Models write differently. Many writers prefer one style over another, which is a matter of taste, so test it.
  • Limits. Every plan has usage caps, and how soon you hit them depends on your habits. Heavy users end up on the $100 tiers or above.
  • Data terms. Where content is processed and whether it can be used to improve models differs by plan. Business plans generally offer stronger commitments than free consumer plans, so read the terms that apply to your plan.

Which one for which job

A few typical situations show how the choice plays out:

  • A solo writer or consultant who reads long reports and drafts proposals: try Claude first, then ChatGPT, and keep the one whose drafts need the least editing.
  • A small office on Google Workspace that wants help in mail, documents and meetings: start with Gemini, because it is already next to the files.
  • Someone who wants one app for everything, including voice and images: ChatGPT has the longest feature list, so it is the easy default.
  • A team that handles customer data in Europe: begin with the data terms, not the model. Shortlist the plans whose processing location and retention you can accept, and compare only those.

The model matters less than the habit. People who give clear instructions, paste the real material and ask for a check at the end get better results from any of the three than people who change brands every month.

A fourth option: choose the model per task

Because no model is best at everything, some people use more than one. You can pay for two or three subscriptions, or use a workspace that routes to several providers. nerix does the second: you pick a model per task from Mistral, Anthropic, Google and DeepSeek, or let the easy picker choose a level, and each answer names the model that wrote it. Plans are in euros, with Plus at 15 euros a month, and a free plan for one person; see pricing and models.

Be clear about the trade-offs. You use the models through nerix, so you get its feature set, not each maker's own app features such as ChatGPT's custom assistants. And nerix is a younger product without a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certificate yet, which its security page states. Its strength is answering from your own documents, with the source page next to each claim, see chat with sources.

How to choose

  1. Try all three free plans for a week on real work, not on test puzzles.
  2. Use ten of your own tasks, including two hard ones, and put the answers side by side.
  3. Count the limits. If you hit the free cap daily, price the paid plan; if not, stay free.
  4. Check data terms for the plan you would buy, especially for customer or staff information.
  5. Pick one for a month, then review. Switching is cheap, because you keep nothing locked in except your habits.

The short version

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are close in price and all have a free plan. ChatGPT has the most features, Claude is often preferred for long documents and careful writing, and Gemini suits Google users. Choose by testing them on your own tasks, check where your data is processed, and consider a multi-model tool if you want to choose per task instead of per brand.

Sıkça sorulan sorular

Which is best, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?
None wins on every task, and the models change every few months. ChatGPT has the widest set of features, Claude is often chosen for long reading and writing, and Gemini fits people who live in Google's apps. Test the three on ten of your own tasks before you pay.
Do I need to pay, or is the free plan enough?
All three have a free plan, and for occasional questions it is often enough. Paid plans mostly raise the usage limits and add features such as deeper research, bigger file handling and priority access. Pay when you keep hitting the free limits.
Can I use all three without paying for three subscriptions?
Yes. Some tools route to several providers under one plan, so you can choose a model per task. nerix is one of them. You then depend on that tool's model list and prices instead of each maker's own app.
