# Roles and Access in nerix

Roles and access are for business workspaces. A role is a list of what a person can do. Workspace rules come first, and a person's own settings can only narrow them.

## In short

- Open Settings, then Roles.
- Read the list of built-in and custom roles, and who holds each.
- Choose New role. Start blank, or from Billing manager, Library manager, Team lead, Support agent or Auditor.
- Turn on the switches under What this role can do.
- Use Preview as this role to see what that person would see. Start free Security

## People outside the company

Roles marked Outside the company do not use a member seat.

## Who can see a chat

Chats start as Only me. The Share button opens Who can see this chat: Only me, These people (choose people and teams), or Everyone in the workspace when your permissions allow it. A separate Public link section controls the read only link.

A chat shared with you is read only. Continue in my own chat makes your own copy. Only the owner of a chat can ask another turn, rename it, pin it, archive it, delete it or share it.

## Files and documents

Folders and documents have their own access screens. nerix answers only from what the asking person is allowed to see.

## Two layers of settings

For me (Account, Language and look, My answers, Memory, Connections) belongs to the person. For the workspace (Workspace, Brand and details, Email sending, AI providers, Billing and usage, Privacy and data) is set by owners and admins.
