## Key takeaways

- A good AI website builder gets you a first site in minutes, but you still own the facts, the photos and the promises on the page.
- Wix, Squarespace and Hostinger are complete choices, Framer is for design-led sites, Durable is the quickest start and nerix builds from a chat with search checks, with limits today.
- Compare year-two prices, confirm the custom domain and check every page before it goes live.

An AI website builder is the right choice if you want a decent small business site in an afternoon, not a project. For most people the answer is Wix, Squarespace or Hostinger when you want a complete, familiar builder with hosting included; Framer when design matters most; Durable for the fastest start; and nerix if you want the site built from a chat and kept next to your documents. This guide compares them on price, free options and limits.

Prices checked on each vendor's own page on 31 October 2026 (no change from our October 21 check). Official pages: [Wix](https://www.wix.com/plans), [Squarespace](https://www.squarespace.com/pricing), [Framer](https://www.framer.com/pricing), [Hostinger](https://www.hostinger.com/website-builder) and [Durable](https://durable.com/pricing).

## The builders side by side

| Builder | Best for | Price from | Free plan | Key limit |

| Wix | A complete all-round builder | Light $17.77 a month, billed yearly | Yes, no custom domain | Custom domain needs a paid plan |

| Squarespace | Polished design | Basic about 14.40 euros a month on yearly billing, 20.40 month to month (page shows VAT estimate) | 14 day trial | No permanent free plan |

| Framer | Designers and marketing sites | Basic $10 a month (page does not say if that is yearly or monthly billing) | Yes, non-commercial | Custom domain needs paid plan |

| Hostinger | Low price with hosting | Premium $2.49 a month promo on a 48 month term, $10.99 renewal | 14 day trial | Long terms, higher renewal |

| Durable | A site in minutes | Launch $25 a month monthly billing, $22 a month yearly (yearly read from the 15% saving toggle) | Yes, preview | Fewer design controls |

| nerix | Sites built from a chat | Free, from 6 euros for more | Yes, 3 sites with badge | Early feature, nerix address only today |

## Wix

Wix lists a Free plan and paid plans on yearly billing: Light at $17.77 a month, Core at $29.77, Business at $39.77 and Business Elite at $159.77, with a free domain for the first year. Connecting your own domain requires a paid plan. Wix offers an AI chat builder: you answer questions about your business, it generates a site, and you refine it by chatting or with drag and drop.

Good for: a complete builder with many apps, booking and shop features.

Falls short: with so many options, the editor can overwhelm a beginner, and prices vary by location.

## Squarespace

On 31 October 2026 the page showed, for our location, Basic at 14.40 euros a month, Core at 21.60, Plus at 38.40 and Advanced at 82.80 on yearly billing, and 20.40, 28.80, 50.40 and 94.80 when you pay month to month. The page says these include an estimated VAT, so your own figure may differ. The page text does not label each figure itself; we read the lower set as yearly because of its Pay annually toggle and note about annual discounts. There is a 14 day free trial without a credit card, and the free domain applies to plans bought for an annual term (one year of registration on available domains). Its Blueprint AI asks about your business and brand, then generates a multi-page site with layout, fonts, copy and images.

Good for: a polished, design-led look, such as for studios, restaurants and portfolios.

Falls short: no permanent free plan, and less flexibility than a fully custom site.

## Framer

Framer targets designers and marketers. It lists a Free plan for non-commercial use, Basic at $10 a month and Pro at $30 (its footer says prices are monthly and billed by the cycle you pick at checkout, but the page we read did not show whether $10 and $30 are the yearly or the monthly figure, so confirm at checkout), with custom domains from Basic upward, plus Enterprise on request. It includes AI credits to try on the free plan.

Good for: sharp marketing sites with strong animation control.

Falls short: it is a design tool first, so a business owner with no design habit may find it more than they need.

Try it on your own work.

## Hostinger

Hostinger's builder has no free plan, but it offers a 14 day free trial. Plans are listed on long terms with a low promotional monthly price and a higher renewal: Premium at $2.49 a month on a 48 month term ($119.52 paid upfront), renewing at $10.99, for up to three sites; Unlimited is $3.49 renewing at $16.99. Its AI Builder has a manual mode and an agentic mode where you build by prompting.

Good for: the lowest starting price with hosting included.

Falls short: the renewal price is several times the starting price, and the long commitment ties up your money.

## Durable

Durable is built for speed. Its Free plan gives a site preview you can share, with 300 AI credits. Launch is $25 a month on the plan card and Grow $49, with a custom domain and more AI credits (1,000 and 5,000 a month). Its comparison table shows lower figures, $22 for Launch and $41 for Grow, which match the page's "Save 15%" yearly toggle; the page does not label them, so confirm at checkout.

Good for: owners who want a first site and a simple CRM without touching design.

Falls short: it is aimed at getting started fast, so look at how much control you get over design details before you commit.

## nerix

We make nerix, so keep that in mind. In nerix you describe the business and it plans the pages, designs them in a look of their own, writes the code and checks every page in a real browser at phone, tablet and desktop width before you see it. Pages are real HTML with titles, descriptions, structured data and a sitemap, and a search check runs before every publish. You can ask for changes in chat, adjust spacing and text by hand, and download the whole project as a zip. See [websites](https://nerix.ai/product/sites).

Publishing is the Websites add-on, and every plan includes a tier: Free has three live sites with a small nerix badge, and larger tiers start at 6 euros a month. Plans are in euros, see [pricing](https://nerix.ai/pricing).

Falls short: it is marked early, sites are published on a nerix web address today and your own domain is next, and it is not an online shop builder like Wix or Squarespace. If you need a custom domain or selling online today, choose a builder that offers it.

## What AI cannot do for your site

An AI builder gives you a good first draft quickly, but a few parts of a website stay your job.

**The facts.** The text it writes about your opening hours, prices, services and guarantees is a guess unless you supplied the details. Wrong information on a business site costs trust and sometimes money.

**The pictures.** Stock or generated images rarely show your real shop, team or work. Real photos convert better, and customers notice the difference.

**The words customers search.** A site is found when its pages answer questions people type into a search engine. Write one page for each service, in the words your customers use, with your town or region where it matters.

**The basics of trust.** Add your address, phone number, company registration and the legal pages your country requires, such as a privacy policy.

**The upkeep.** Prices change and offers end. Put a monthly reminder in your calendar to read the site as a visitor would.

## Questions to ask before you pay

Four checks save the most money. Is the price you see for yearly or monthly billing? What does the plan cost at renewal? Does the plan include your own domain, or only a free one for the first year? And can you export your pages if you leave? For search, also read our guide to a [small business website with AI and SEO](https://nerix.ai/blog/small-business-website-with-ai-and-seo).

## How to choose

- **Do you need to sell online?** Then look at Wix or Squarespace first.

- **Do you need your own domain now?** Check that the plan you want includes it.

- **How much design control?** Framer gives the most, Durable the least.

- **What will it cost in year two?** Compare the renewal price, not the starting offer.

- **Who will update it?** Pick the tool you will actually open every month.

- **Will you write the content?** No builder replaces text that answers what your customers ask.

Tip

Before you publish, open the site on a phone, click every link, and read every sentence the AI wrote about your prices and services. Check each fact.

## The short version

A good AI website builder gets you a first site in minutes, but you still own the facts, the photos and the promises on the page. Wix, Squarespace and Hostinger are complete choices, Framer is for design-led sites, Durable is the quickest start and nerix builds from a chat with search checks, with limits today. Compare year-two prices, confirm the custom domain and check every page before it goes live.

## Questions people ask

Can an AI website builder really make a site from one message?

It can make a first version, with pages, text and a design, in minutes. You still need to check the facts, add your own photos, set up your contact details and test the site on a phone before you publish.

Will an AI built site rank in search?

A site ranks because of its content, its structure and who links to it, not because AI made it. Choose a builder that creates real pages with titles and descriptions, and write content that answers what your customers search for.

Can I use my own domain name?

With most builders, yes on a paid plan. Free plans usually give you a subdomain from the builder, often with its badge. Check this before you build, because moving later takes work.
